Love Child Vertical Tasting

Following the recent release of Love Child No. 8, we’ve heard from folks who are conducting vertical tastings of multiple vintages of our Love Child Blends. While we believe in releasing beer that we feel is ready to be enjoyed, we also find it fascinating to hold on to certain beers to taste as they age, especially our beers that are influenced by lactobacillus and brettanomyces. To this end, we’d like to share blending percentages and tasting notes for our three most recent Love Child Blends. Take a look. Share your thoughts with us. Let us know if you have any questions!

Love Child No. 6
ABV – 9.2 / IBUs - 11
Base – Strong Belgian-style Blonde
Blend – 70% red wine barrels, 30% stainless steel tank

Deep golden/bronze in color, Love Child No. 6 opens with aromas of lemon, tart cherry and under ripe strawberry with a touch of oak. Lactobacillus provides a crisp, refreshing acidity with bright citrus, berry and oak.

Perfect Pairing – Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cordials

Love Child No. 7
ABV – 8.2 / IBUs – 9
Base – Flanders-style Red
Blend – 48% red wine barrels, 30% whiskey barrels, 22% stainless steel tank

Pouring a slightly hazy, reddish amber hue, Love Child No. 7 opens with aromas of red fruit with a slight citric acidity detected. Lactobacillus contributes soft acidity with strawberry/citrus, oak and subtle spice notes.

Perfect Pairing - Beemster X.O. & fresh berries with mint leaves

Love Child No. 8
ABV – 9 / IBUs – 9
Base – Strong Belgian-style Golden ale, Flanders-style Red ale
Blend – Red wine barrels - 59% Belgian-style Golden, 41% Flanders-Style Red

Deep golden/amber in color, Love Child No. 8 features soft lactic acidity punctuated with slight acetic notes and a tart, fruity flavor reminiscent of sour cherries and green strawberries.
Perfect Pairing – Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
