In celebration of the fact that Boulevard Brewing Company's Founder John McDonald got his start as a homebrewer and recognizing that homebrewers play a vital role in introducing folks to craft beer, we're excited to announce that we're inviting members of the American Homebrewers Association to drop by to grab up to five gallons of Boulevard wort to transform as they see fit in our first Wort with Friends competition!

Beginning with the fairly simple recipe our brewers use to propagate Boulevard's yeast strains, area homebrewers will have the chance to use the wort as they see fit to produce a batch of beer that will then be entered into a judged competition with the winner receiving the opportunity to scale up his/her recipe to be brewed on Boulevard's 35 bbl pilot system. In addition to serving the winning beer to guests in the Tours & Rec Center Beer Hall, we'll enter the winning batch into the Greater American Beer Festival's Pro-Am Competition. Because it's important to have folks on hand who're able to talk about the recipe and brewing process to thirsty, knowledge-seeking festival goers, we'll bring the winner along with us!

Sound great? Of course it does! Keep reading to see if you're willing and able to jump through just a few beery hoops (not hops) to make it all happen:

March 26th at 10am - Open registration begins at Boulevard.com/WortWithFriends. Potential brewers, who must be current members of the American Homebrewers Association, will register for a date and two hour window to swing by the brewery to grab a maximum of five gallons of wort. Boulevard brewers will be on hand to assist and homebrewers can enjoy a complimentary pour in the Beer Hall following wort retrieval. Available times will be from 10am to 4pm on April 19th & 20th and 10am to 12pm on April 21st. (Dates/times are subject to modification based on demand.)

May 28th through June 1st - Participating homebrewers will return one six-pack of 12oz bottles to the Boulevard Tours & Rec Center Welcome Desk during normal business hours.

Entries will be judged internally by a panel composed of Boulevardians on Friday, June 8th and we'll notify a winner on Monday, June 11th.

If you're selected as our winning homebrewer, please be aware that you must be available to brew your beer at Boulevard Brewing Company on an agreed to date in late July or early August and must be willing to accept any recipe modifications that may be required due to logistical or compliance reasons. The winning homebrewer may not transfer his/her prize.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us at homebrewer@boulevard.com.
